Teller Check Recognition Workflow

Teller Check Recognition Workflows

Teller image capture, also referred to as deposit automation, provides an innovative way to balancing transactions and incorporate image data all within the teller platform. Teller image capture systems integrate the image capture process with the teller platform as well as host integration. By implementing image capture in this way, transactions are “pre-balanced” when they are aggregated to the centralized system. Transit images are immediately ready for image exchange processing and back-office functions of data entry, balancing and adjustments are minimized.

Most financial institutions who implemented teller image capture also incorporate a deferred workstation approach, where high volume transactions are scanned after the customer departs. This deferred process enables the teller to take more time in the balancing process which is normally needed because of items which are misread by recognition software or miskeyed by the teller.

Check recognition in this environment has a different business case than centralized or branch capture. Recognition errors slow deposit automation processes and can cause delays while the teller has “face time” with the client. Additionally, high misreads that may occur at the deferred workstation can cause many downstream issues in balancing. Financial institutions can centralize the balancing processes for deferred transactions, and with high levels of inaccuracy, incremental labor costs and customer posting errors can result. Accura XV, optimized for teller implementations, can provide read rates across all documents at 90%+ with a 99% accuracy.

Orbograph has developed a special interface with multiple configuration options to facilitate the teller recognition function. A new interface called the OrboCAR Bridget Interface (OBI) can be used with Accura XV Teller Reco licensing to streamline the check processing system interface. Additionally, the new High Speed mode reduces hardware requirements by 30-40% with only minor reductions in read rate. These improvements bring a whole new meaning to “simple integration” and “optimized performance”.

Lastly, the Accura XV Portal provides a mechanism to track performance levels to the branch and teller levels. The Portal consolidates all recognition results and reconciles the final balanced amounts, giving financial institutions and Orbograph resellers an advanced tool for optimization purposes. The Portal is an important component to the Managed Recognition service offering, which is also available to large financial institutions running teller capture.
